Away supporters in the home end.

Below is the letter we sent to West Ham today following complaints received from some of our members.

August 23rd 2019.
Dear Jake,
Our members have raised the issue of large numbers of Manchester City supporters in the home sections at the recent match at the London Stadium.
They were clearly identifiable as they were wearing Manchester City Shirts and there is no doubt that their presence annoyed some West Ham supporters.
We would draw your attention to London Stadium Ground Regulations as follows:-
Regulation1.2.
Notwithstanding possession of any ticket the club,operator,any police officer or authorised steward may refuse entry(or eject from)the ground any person whose presence within the ground is,or could,(in the operator’s reasonable opinion)constitute a source of danger,nuisance or annoyance to any other person.
Regulation 18.
Any individual who has entered any part of London Stadium designated for the use of any group of supporters to which he does not belong may be ejected from the ground either for the purposes of his own safety or for any other reason.
There is no doubt Jake that these Manchester City supporters did constitute an annoyance to West Ham supporters around them.Furthermore, whilst thankfully(and perhaps fortunately) their presence did not lead to trouble, on another day this might not be the case.-And supporters including children could be put at risk.
This leads to two questions:-
1.These supporters were clearly wearing Manchester City Shirts.Why were they allowed entry into this part of the ground and (assuming they slipped passed security on entering)why were they not ejected when openly sporting colours?
2.How did they obtain tickets for this part of the ground?
We know that the safety of supporters is paramount to West Ham United.We have Manchester United at home coming up soon and fear that away supporters in the West Ham sections at this match could lead to trouble.Our members have asked us to pass on their concerns .
We would appreciate you investigating and taking the necessary steps to ensure that these obvious breaches of regulations will not happen again.
We have sent a copy of this letter to LLDC,The Football Supporters Association and the Premier League.

That was an amazing day , my fave ever game & we had their North Bank , thousands of us in there as can be seen from the surge as Alan Taylor puts it home through all that mud .

Tribalism is slowly leaving football, whether that be good or bad, but it would be a shame if you're prevented going to a match with a friend because he supports the other side.

As long as they're respectful and don't take the piss, then leave them to it.

My first away game that Cough... in the seats with my Dad and Uncle... quite a sight that was... thing was I thought EVERY away game was going to be like that !

I remember in 1975 our FA cup winning year, we were drawn away to Arsenal, I got in and found myself in their North Bank and thinking to myself, I'd better keep quiet in here anyway, we scored and the place erupted, it seemed like the whole North Bank was rammed with West Ham, marvellous day

As said you are never going to prevent this happening but as long as they are respectful, don’t where colours and sit on their hands then don’t really have a problem with it. Having done it on the odd rare occasion myself its a thoroughly unenjoyable experience so at least i know they are not having fun.

That said i was in the home end when we beat Fulham 3-1 about 5/6 yrs ago as my brother-in-law has a few season tickets at the Cottage. Totally took the piss and was up singing Bubbles by the end of the match completely unchallenged along with two other young lad hammers who were sitting 2 rows in front of me. We’d spotted each other at half time and gave the knowing nod as to our share allegiance and when the second and third goals went in we were up cheering. All the Ruperts, Henry’s and trust fund babies around us just tutted, chinless wonders.

Been in a few home ends like Ipswich, Leeds ( 1990 when 4 coachloads of our "chaps" who were given tickets on the coaches boosted the away end and called off in Wakefield after the game ), Highbury, Newcastle and Blackburn ( when the away end held 400 due to redevelopment ). Never really had a problem apart from a few stares because we kept our heads down and didn't take the mickey.

Agree. A lot of it is foreign supporters who don’t understand of have just been sold any old ticket. Saw Chinese Man U fans in the west stand at up and same but with Man City the other week in the OS

never wear colours if in the other teams home end,2 memorable matches away for me,at norwich took my son to his first away game, lee chapman scored and there was mass celebration as lots of the stand was filled with west ham, around 16 years ago before my son got married someobe got me a couple of tickets for liverpool away, they were complimentrys from peter crouch, were in the main stand but right near the kop,

zamora scores to put us ahead at other end of the ground,all west ham go crazy,me and my son had to sit there and keep quiet, then liverpool equalise and everyone around us goes mental celebrating, they win the game 2-1 but not a nice experience stuck in with home supporters.
Rather not go to an away game if i cant be with our own fans.

My behaviour at away T20's would get fucking head kicked in within 30 seconds if I acted like that in the away end at football.

If annoyance is criteria for ejection, the whole West Ham team were strong candidates that day.

When you get a ticket for a match in the wrong section, you don't wear colours and you keep your fucking mouth shut. If you don't follow these steps and get a slap it is your own fault.

I remember going to a game in the late 80s (i was a kid) and there were these two young blonde scouse birds on the north east shelf of the north bank in full liverpool colours loudly supporting them. No one said anything. In fact a lot of blokes were edging close to them for some reason.

I remember spotting a Liverpool fan a few seats away at Upton Park. There were no colours but when they scored I did my usual of swearing under my breath and briefly turning away, which is when I saw him sitting on his hands and trying not to celebrate. He knew I had seen him and looked nervous for a second but when he realised I was not going to react he settled. I didn't shake the hand he offered me at the end of the game though.

Fully agree with most, lots of people do/have done it, but you shouldn't wear colours or take the piss. If anyone does/is then they should be ejected from the ground immediately.

Maybe these cunts do need a clump to see the error of their ways, and understand football is very territorial and tribal, and this isn’t fucking rugby, or cricket.

At the least they should be immediately ejected from the ground by the stewards, the same stewards who seem to get some kind of kick out of constantly telling home fans to sit down. They probably wouldn't have got past the turnstiles at UP, but when your stewards support the Mancs or the gooners, or whoever the fuck else, why should they care?

I sit in block 148 ,last season v Liverpool had some Chinese fella sitting right in front of me , l thought he had a half and half scarf on but no it was the full biffta,they scored ,up he went , it was a cold January nights and for some reason he turned around he had the full metal liver bird jacket on plus the top, l thought he ain’t gonna last long in here ,two minutes later we equalised ,some bloke came down the stairs and punched him square between the shoulder blades ,did l feel sorry for him ,dunno ,yes and no, we’ve all done it,sat in the wrong end but you have to gauge it accordingly ,these type of tourists imo are a huge part of the problems of. Modern football
